Organizing a Brigade
MEDLIFE 2008-2009
Recruitment Notes for Students
Who should we be soliciting? How many of each do we need?
Primary Care Physicians
Physicians Assistants (PAs)
Nurse Practitioners (NPs)
Dentists
The student to healthcare provider ratio should not exceed 10:1. If more than 10 students are interested in participating in the brigade, another primary healthcare provider must also travel with your group. At least one of your providers should be a physician.
What about pediatricians?
Pediatricians are appropriate since we see large numbers of children during our brigades
Tips for recruitment:
• Easiest for to do over significant school breaks
• Brainstorm possible contacts in the medical profession
• Learn all you can about MEDLIFE so you can inform others well
• Be persistent and sincere
Solidifying interest:
• You will remain one of the primary contact persons for any physicians you recruit
• Supply them with the expectations document (attached below)
• introduce your brigades officer over email and set up a meeting (brigades officers could call in if necessary) to discuss the medical brigade in more detail.
Having trouble?
If a primary care practitioner cannot join, ask them if they can help in other capacities such as contacting colleagues, circulating information, donating medical supplies, or joining in following years
