A MEDLIFE Mobile Clinic is a basic medical clinic that we bring directly to the poor. Staffed not only by general practitioners, each Clinic provides patients with dental, OB/GYN, and pediatric care, as well as access to preventative tests. Mobile Clinic participants have the opportunity to work closely with and learn from our medical professionals as they identify individuals in need of follow-up care. Participants will work alongside our staff at patient intake, triage and pharmacy, and also help run our educational programs. The typical Mobile Clinic week includes three days volunteering on-site at the Clinic, one day working with local community members on a development project, one day completing a tour of the project site, and two days of cultural tourism.

BRINGING A CLINIC TO THE POOR

A Mobile Clinic is just that: a basic medical clinic that we bring directly to the poor. Staffed not only by general practitioners, each Clinic provides patients with dental, OB/GYN, and pediatric care.

Our Clinics also provide preventative tests (e.g. Pap smears and breast cancer screenings) and are equipped with a basic laboratory station to provide doctors in the field with instant results to guide their diagnosis and treatment.

PARTNERING WITH LOCAL DOCTORS AND PROFESSIONALS ON THE GROUND

Our Mobile Clinics stations are staffed by local doctors and nurses who speak the local language and provide patients with culturally sensitive care.

Our medical professionals also understand the local referral system and can help direct patients who cannot be treated at our Mobile Clinic site to a local hospital that can provide the necessary treatment.

  ENSURING PATIENT FOLLOW-UP

Mobile Clinic patients who present serious symptoms are provided year-round follow-up care by our community health workers and field nurses.

MEDLIFE’s follow-up services include accompanying patients along each step of the process, providing financial support for treatments, educating individuals about their illnesses, and connecting patients to other health care providers, among others.

  PROVIDING PREVENTATIVE EDUCATION

Our Mobile Clinics include a health education station that all patients must participate in.

These educational workshops focus on informing patients about common health problems, demonstrating important screening tests, and answering questions that concerned parents and family members may have.

LEARNING ABOUT LOCAL CULTURE THROUGH SERVICE

Through direct interaction with community residents and medical professionals, as well as educational workshops related to the participant’s Mobile Clinic site, students have the opportunity to learn about a foreign country and culture through the context of service (as opposed to traveling with a tour group).
