The MEDLIFE Fund

The MEDLIFE Fund is MEDLIFE’s initiative to engage in sustainable, large-scale projects that deliver MEDs to the poor. One hundred percent of all monetary donations to the MEDLIFE Fund goes directly to funding these projects. Every cent of every donation is spent on itemized project costs (building materials, construction crews, etc), rather than any part of MEDLIFE’s operational or administrative budget. MEDLIFE will even cover transaction fees for donations made via credit card. All money intended for the poor goes to the poor.
MEDLIFE Fund Projects
Examples of past and current projects include:
Pamplona, Peru Staircase Projects
Telan Playa, Ecuador Classroom Project
Chimborazo, Ecuador Hygenic Bathroom Projects
Penonome, Panama Hygenic Bathroom Project
To identify potential projects, MEDLIFE workers consult with community leaders during and following our Mobile Clinics. In all MEDLIFE Fund projects, MEDLIFE partners with motivated individuals in local communities and works alongside them to facilitate development. MEDLIFE does not merely donate money and resources to those in need. Instead, we promote community responsibility and engagement by sharing the work and cost of the project with the community itself. By making the community a stakeholder in this fashion, we help to ensure that our projects will be valued and sustained. In many communities, MEDLIFE workers participate in weekly community development projects, known as mingas in Ecuador and faenas in Peru. This work further helps us integrate into the communities we serve, building a trust between parties which is essential in long-term development work.
Our MEDLIFE Fund Projects are thus a crucial element of our work in promoting a cycle of health, education, and personal development, in which every community member takes an active role in working towards living a healthier, happier life.
