New Volunteer Opportunity! Our Mobile School program aims to provide greater resources to low-income communities through the provision of educational workshops and legal counsel. In addition, volunteers participate in a cultural exchange with community members, providing support and learning about current educational issues in Peru. NOTE: This program is currently only available in Lima, Peru.

  BRINGING SCHOOLS INTO COMMUNITIES

Many communities in Latin America -- whether for economic, geographic, or cultural reasons -- lack access to ongoing, quality education. Communities also often lack familiarity with current laws and procedures. Our Mobile Schools aim to reach the most remote populations in order to share information that would otherwise be inaccessible to these communities.

PARTNERING WITH LOCAL
TEACHERS

To understand community problems, it is necessary to work with individuals who work and live in these communities. For this reason, we work with local professionals who are specialists in topics relevant to each population, and who provide culturally-sensitive education. We also hope to empower members of the community to become trusted leaders, capable of directing others toward a path of further development.

  ENSURING LONG-TERM SUPPORT

Through our Mobile Schools, we aim to visit the same groups of students multiple times throughout their school careers in order to provide long-term educational support.

We also plan to fund scholarships for deserving students to fund a portion or the entirety of a higher education, technical, or professional training program.

FOCUSING ON DIVERSE CONTENT AREAS

Finance (Business and Microfinance): Teaching families how to organize their finances, start a plan to save, and pay down high interest loans.
Legal Rights: Teaching residents about their legal rights and making sure that residents are aware of all resources available to them (e.g. property rights, free or low-cost health care programs).
Public Health: Providing information about how best to stay healthy and prevent illness.
Broadening Horizons & Supporting Dreams: Encouraging children with limited role models to dream big and plan for their future careers.

LEARNING ABOUT LOCAL CULTURE THROUGH SERVICE

Through participation in our Mobile Schools and direct interaction with community residents, students have the opportunity to learn about a foreign country and culture through the context of service (as opposed to traveling with a tour group).

Participants gain a much greater understanding of the current reality, the social and socio-economic problems, and the organization of communities on the ground in Peru.
