Olivia Howell, a student from Cornell University, used MEDLIFE's 50:50 Fundraising Tool to raise $1,760. $880 went to fund Olivia's full participation fee to attend a Mobile Clinic in Lima, Peru -- as well as part of her travel expenses -- and the other $880 went directly to MEDLIFE's mission fund in order to support our year-round work in Peru and Ecuador.
During the Mobile Clinic, Olivia jumped in to help wherever necessary and enthusiastically handled each role she was given -- from shadowing our doctors to helping construct a staircase project in Pamplona Alta. Olivia spoke to us about her experience in Lima, as well as how she was used her 50:50 campaign page to successfully fund her entire trip.
Watch the video below to hear Olivia's story in her own words:
During a February, 2012 Mobile Clinic, MEDLIFE used the $880 that Olivia raised to build an especially long staircase project in the community of Manolo Castillo. Olivia's 50:50 campaign financed the project, but the staircase itself was completed by a team of community members from Manolo Castillo, as well as a group of Mobile Clinic participants from McGill University. This unique partnership between Manolo Castillo, MEDLIFE staff members, Olivia Howell, and McGill University allowed us to construct yet another project during the month of February -- one of the longest staircases we've built -- for a community in need.
